Sterling Award Winner

Amber (Uphaus) Fether graduated from Wauseon High School in 2003. Amber earned 12 varsity letters in track, basketball and golf, won 4 Triple W Awards, and the 2003 Sterling Award, which is awarded to the outstanding senior athlete. Amber received a Division I golf scholarship from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Apparel Design and Fashion Merchandising.

Amber earned 4 letters competing on the boy’s golf team which finished as NWOAL runner-up in 1999, 2000 and 2001 and were NWOAL champions in 2002. In 2002 Amber was all-NWOAL 2nd team. She qualified all 4 years for the girls district golf tournament and was all-district 1st team each of those seasons. Amber’s greatest golf achievement was being a 4 time state qualifier to the OHSAA girls state tournament. She finished 14th in 1999, 6th in 2000 (all-Ohio 2nd team), 8th in 2001 (all-Ohio 2nd team) and 9th in 2002 (all-Ohio 2nd team).

Amber scored 717 points in her 4 year varsity basketball career. Freshman highlights were NWOAL and sectional championships and all-NWOAL honorable mention. Sophomore honors were all-NWOAL and District 7 honorable mention. Junior honors included all-NWOAL 2nd team, District 7 1st team and the Silver Scholar Certificate from the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association (OHSBCA). Senior highlights included a sectional championship, all-NWOAL honorable mention, District 7 1st team and a Golden Scholar Certificate from the OHSBCA.

In track Amber earned 4 letters competing in the high jump and pole vault.

Amber competed and lettered in golf 4 years at Ball State University. She was selected as the top freshman golfer and was named a Division I All-American Scholar Athlete in 2004-2005. Amber was named to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars after her senior year.

Amber currently lives in Orlando, Florida with her husband Zach and two sons Logan and Dylan. She is a Costume Design Manager for Walt Disney Imagineering focusing on character programs and development.
